Port of Felixstowe, the biggest container port in the UK, is owned & managed by Hutchison Ports, one of the world’s largest operators. |
The port produces over 3,500 tonnes of waste each year and NCS subsidiary company Suffolk Coastal Services (SCS) were first awarded the contract for waste management and recycling early in 2006.
When the agreement came up for renewal, NCS successfully re-tendered against fierce competition from several of the UK’s leading contractors.
NCS now have a 5 years contract with the Port, worth over £600k per annum.
Since taking over the contract NCS has taken recycling form zero to almost 50% of total waste, a performance that, according to NCS New Business Development Manager Geoff Tucker, “was the key factor in retaining the contract.”
“ We have developed a true working partnership with the Port,” Tucker added, “operating an open-book accounting system. Over the next two years the port will expand significantly, and its container throughput will almost double. This will undoubtedly increase the value of the NCS contract as waste volumes will grow.” |
