NCS fired up over contract win

Facilities Management organisation NCS Group has won a 26-year contract to supply a range of services to Suffolk Fire and Rescue, as part of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) consortium.

Headed by The Land Group, and with other key member Farrans (Construction) Ltd, the Consortium will rebuild, refurbish and manage 11 fire stations across Suffolk.

NCS Sales and Marketing Director Mike Sparrow said the agreement would be worth £20 million over the 26-year period.

Under the arrangement NCS, in conjunction with subsidiary company SCS Ltd a partnership company owned jointly by NCS and Suffolk Coastal District Council, will provide cleaning, grounds maintenance, building maintenance and waste management services to five refurbished stations and six new stations across the county.

NCS will also supply and operate an internet based help desk facility that will enable Suffolk Fire Service to track in ‘real time’ - outstanding tasks, response times, customer satisfaction levels, and performance against agreed key indicators. The system will also provide comprehensive reports enabling the authority to monitor costs and ensure that the contract continues to deliver a level of service that guarantees that the Fire and Rescue service benefits from an efficient and professional support services package.

SCS Managing Director Denis Ball says that existing Suffolk County Counil (Fire Service) personnel will transfer to SCS, and that there will be a number of new posts created, predominately in Building Maintenance.

Mike Sparrow said the contract represented an important step in the company’s growth:
“This agreement with Suffolk Fire Services is clear evidence that NCS is establishing itself as a significant player in the PFI contracts market. It endorses our business plan objectives to become a major force in this important market within private/public sector initiatives.”

The PFI contract was secured by a consortium headed by The Land Group, a company that specialises in project finance and development in the private and public sectors. Farrans will undertake the construction elements of the project.
